Another Season of Survivor

Neely Burns, Editor-in-Chief

Survivor, one of America’s most beloved game shows, recently began its 42nd season. But what exactly does this entail, and what is the current season like?

Survivor has been on air since 2000, taking place in a variety of exotic locations across the globe including the Philippines, Gabon, Cambodia, and so many more. However, since season 33, the show has taken place solely in Fiji, and season 42 is no different. However, unlike all previous seasons besides season 41, season 42 is just 26 days long rather than the historical 39. The object of the show is to survive to the end of the game by not being voted out by your tribe (or being medically evacuated, but that isn’t necessarily in the players’ control). At the end of the allotted game time, at a “Final Tribal Council,” players already voted out have to cast their vote for one castaway to receive the title of Sole Survivor and win the $1 million prize. One thing is for sure: contestants will do virtually anything to win the game, making for excellent television.

On season 42, the show introduces 18 new castaways separated into three tribes. These are Ika, Taku, and Vati, meaning “fish”, “hawksbill sea turtle”, and “swimming crab” in Fijian respectively. The season contains similar gameplay to what is essentially its counterpart, season 41, including special idols (items which protect plays from being voted out) and secret advantages, but with a whole new cast of colorful personalities, the show still keeps you on the edge of your seat. While we won’t divulge any concrete details, with a medical evacuation in the first episode and never before seen endings to challenges, the season is certainly one which will not be soon forgotten.

If you would like to know more about the season, watch it on CBS or Paramount+! You will not want to miss it.
