Golf Season 21′-22′
September 15, 2021
Starting the school year off right, Thunderbird’s golf season has begun in early August. Try-outs were during the first week of school for both the girls and boys teams. Now the team has been practicing for a couple weeks at Moon Valley Country Club and Cave Creek Golf Course. The team practices after school on the golf course every Tuesday-Thursday.
Mr. Wittenwyler and Mr. Flores are the coaches for golf this year. Mr. Flores has just started coaching the girls, as they now have enough members to have their own team. The boys team is coached by Mr. Wittenwyler, and their practices usually go from 3:00 pm – 5:30 pm. They play nine holes for practice at the Moon Valley Country Club. There’s matches during the week and tournaments over the weekends. The boys team has around ten members. According to senior Cade Hoiby, “With new members and Mr. Wittenwyler as our coach we are ready for the season. It has started off great so far with practices, and everyone seems to be enjoying the season. This is my first year on the team, so I’m excited to see what’s in store. So far, I’m enjoying every moment of it.”
The girls’ practices range from Cave Creek Golf Course and Moon Valley Country Club. Their practices vary, and there are three girls on the team this year. The girls now have their own team with new members, “This is my second year playing golf for Thunderbird. Last year I played on the boys team, since I was the only girl. I’m excited to have girls to practice and compete with this year. In addition the girls team also has their own coach, Mr. Flores. With our own coach, team, and practice schedule I’m excited to see what the season has in store” (Anonymous).
The season goes till the beginning of October, and with two coaches it should be a breeze. Thunderbird’s golf team has lots in store for the season, and hope to make an impact during their matches and tournaments. If all goes as planned, both the girls and boys team are ready for the future their season holds.
