  The Thunderbird Titans swim team is continuing to work hard and win meets despite the odds! After a successful first meet, they have continued on their path to success.

The Titan’s second meet was against Willow Canyon, where the girls won 91:83 and the boys won 122:43. Excellent job Thunderbird! The team’s third meet was meant to be against Greenway, but it is now being postponed to October 19th due to COVID-19 reasons. When this meet does occur, be sure to cheer the Titans on, as Greenway is one of their bigger rivals. One swimmer, Dylan Brandt, exclaims, “This is my first season, but it has been a lot of fun! I hope more people show up to support the team.” Thunderbird also swam against Deer Valley and St. Mary’s, where they won 140: 126 (Deer Valley): 29 (St. Mary’s) for the girls and 138: 80 (Deer Valley): 75 (St. Mary’s) for the boys. They also swam against Sunrise Mountain on September 28, where the boys put up a strong fight but lost 116-67 but the girls’ loss was even closer at 92-91. This is the team’s first loss, but they are still hopeful for future meets.

The Titans additionally participated in their first invite of the season on September 25. At invites, the team members get a chance to swim against a myriad of other teams for a chance at a time that will land them in the state swim meet. At this meet, the swimmers performed very well. achieving personal bests in a myriad of events. One senior swimmer, Neely Burns broke the school record in the 200 IM previously held by Joni Zimmerman from 2004. Great job Titans!

The Thunderbird swim and dive team continued their winning streak in tug of war in the fall sports assembly. First, they went up against the Cross Country team and although the runners put up a good fight, the swim team was victorious. In the championship round, the team competed against badminton, where they also won, and thus won the tug of war tournament at the fall sports assembly. Great work swimmers!

All in all, the Titans have had an excellent season so far, and they hope to continue their streak throughout the next several weeks. Be sure to show up and support your Thunderbird Titans swim team!
