The NBA playoffs are underway and the road to the NBA Finals begins. The Finals will begin on June 1, 2023. 16 teams are starting off the playoffs; eight from the west and eight from the east, that play in eight series. Next are the semi-finals with four teams in the west and four teams in the east in two separate series on each side then the winners from those games play in the western conference final and the eastern conference final. The winner of each game on each side then goes head to head in the NBA Finals. In an article by Greg Swartz from Bleacher Report he stated, “The field consists of a variety of previous title winners…; stars trying to win their first rings…; and former champs looking to win for the first time in a new location.” Most years there are clear favorites to win the title, but this year the playoff race is opening with many talented teams and competitive series. New additions like Kevin Durant to the Suns and Jalen Brunson to the Knicks will give their teams an extra boost of firepower that both teams need, and we will see how far they can lead their teams in the playoffs. Chris Herring from si.com said, “Brunson… springboarded…to star status and a career-best season now (24.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 41.6 percent from three).” Brunson has shown he is a true star in the league and can lead this new-look Knicks team to a title appearance. The Clippers are dealing with injury issues which could give the Suns an advantage, as stated in an article by ESPN, “After battling their own health issues lately, all of the stars in Phoenix are ready to go, which simply makes this an unfair fight.” This year’s playoffs will be must-see television with star power and legacy leading the way for their respected teams.
