First of all, every year there’s a huge event for celebrities to dress up in a theme. The theme for this year’s Met Gala was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” Karl Lagerfeld was a well-known German fashion designer who died in 2019. Karl had worked with famous fashion houses such as Chanel, Chloe, and Fendi. In fact, many celebrities dressed in these fashion designer brands. Apart from this, some would say that this was one of the best Mets since 2019. Celebrities like the Kardashians, Asap Rocky, Rhianna, Pedro Pascal, Doja Cat, and Billie Eilish attended the 2023 Met Gala. Many celebrities surprised everyone with their unique outfits. For example, Doja Cat decided to dress as Karl Lagerfeild’s cat. She was not the only one though; Jared Leto had also thought of this and dressed as Karl’s cat. Of course, fashion isn’t the only thing that the event is for. For instance, it is a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Intuition. Megan Powers and Marius DeMartino who both write for the Mirror section of Dartmouth give their input on the famous event. They stated that the “2023 theme inevitably led to some pretty boring looks on the fashion front: Consider the endless iterations of black and white tweed resuscitated from the CHANEL archives.” In all honesty, there was a repetition of black and white in this year’s Met Gala, but celebrities state that the color black was a “color Largfeild wore almost exclusively.” Also, there are many opinions about who was best and worst dressed at the Met Gala. Parker Stanley thinks that Billie Eilish was the best dressed and Doja Cat was the worst dressed. Parker claims that Doja Cat’s outfit was “out of pocket” and “sort of on theme but not really.” In conclusion, The Met Gala was a huge success this year. Seeing all the celebrities honoring Karl Lagerfeld and incorporating their own style with it was outstanding. This year’s Met Gala only excites everyone for what to expect for next year’s Met Gala.
