Lizzo, a “body positive” plus-sized singer, allegedly body-shamed and demoralized her former background dancers. Over the past few years, Lizzo grew in popularity as a plus-sized singer known for spreading body positivity through her songs and clothing brand.
Recently, Lizzo’s former background dancers Crystal Williams, Arianna Davis, and Noelle Rodriguez came forward with sexual harassment allegations. The former dancers claim that Lizzo’s body “Shamed them, exploited them, and forced them to do inappropriate acts for her own benefit. The former dancers’ lawyer, Ron Zambrano, states on this topic: “The stunning nature of how Lizzo and her management team treated their performers seems to go against everything Lizzo stands for publicly, while privately she weight-shames her dancers and demeans them in ways that are not only illegal but absolutely demoralizing,” This quote shows how deeply uncomfortable Lizzo made the dancers feel before she fired them.
Since the claims became exposed, Lizzo has dealt with major negative backlash. Her feelings show her true intentions towards the situation and the way she handles it shows how little she cares about her former dancers. These allegations are very serious and definitely tarnished Lizzo’s reputation, however, she will not be going to jail because the lawsuit was canceled. Lizzo is now scheduling her first show since the accusations, which will most definitely lead to mixed emotions from fans.
Lizzo faces serious claims against her but she is attempting to slip past cancel culture and maintain the fame and reputation she once had. Angelica Alvarez, a student at Thunderbird High School and former supporter of Lizzo, states: “She deflected what she stands for and had all her fans believe that they were powerful, this situation makes her fake.” Fans who previously enjoyed Lizzo’s music and positivity chose to stop supporting her because of these allegations, harming her reputation and popularity.
