On November 22nd Thunderbird will be attending its first wrestling match of the year against Ironwood and Verado. How well the team trains and performs this preseason will determine how well they play during the actual events. This year, our team may possibly be top 2 in the region this season. Head coach Lee Chandler says that sending 7-9 boys up to state is possible.
The senior wrestling team is led by Bryan Walker. Lee Chandler says that a promising young player, Elijah Little could be a key component to doing well this season. Elijah went 13-2 at the team camp in Colorado, a stellar performance. JP Stewart is also an up and coming wrestler who will contribute a lot to wins in the future. With a score of 37 last year, we tied 17th in the division. And this year the wrestlers will try again to maintain our team’s success.
As for many other sports, the first game of a season can heavily impact the fans and the team itself. We can’t wait for what the first games will bring, but whether we win or lose, we must always remember to support our colleagues and support the Thunderbird Wrestling team. Go Titans!
