Wildlife authorities are on a search for a locally iconic Maasai Mara Lion in East Africa. Since mid-January wildlife authorities have been searching for this member of the Black Rock lion pride that was possibly involved in a human-wildlife conflict. “One of Maasai Mara’s most iconic lions, Olobor is part l of the five-member Black Rock lion pride which is a famed attraction of the Kenyan game reserve.” The missing Maasai Mara Lion has had little to no proof that Olober (the lion’s given name) is deceased or hurt from past interactions. “Researchers say high densities of people living adjacent to the greater Maasai Mara ecosystem have resulted in lions coming into increasing contact with people and livestock.” “There are an estimated 2,589 lions in Kenya, according to the Kenyan Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife’s 2021 wildlife census; And while male lions certainly pose great danger to each other, humans remain the greatest threat that a lion will ever face. Human-lion conflict, retaliatory killing, and poaching are the primary pressures from humans that put the future of lions in jeopardy.” In other words, the search for the missing lion is not only to bring him home but to regain the balance that keeps Olober safe but also the locals that could come across the roaming animal.
