This is a picture of some Seniors during their graduation, the most awaited event by all the students of the high school. On this day they receive the diploma and they are ready to go to college.

Mary and Lorenzo are two Seniors at Grand Canyon High School who agreed to interview with me for The Challenge about moving onto college.

“How do you feel about moving into college next school year?”

Mary : “I definitely feel a mix of emotions as I get ready to move into college. It’s exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time. I’m thrilled to start this new chapter in my life and meet new people, but at the same time, I’m anxious about leaving the familiar behind.”

Lorenzo:  “As I prepare to move into college, I feel a mix of anticipation and loneliness. It’s a strange feeling to be excited about what’s to come while also missing the comfort of home and the familiarity of my current life.”

“What specific emotions do seniors typically experience before moving into college?”

Lorenzo: “Seniors like myself typically experience a sense of independence, but also some anxiety before making the big move to college. It’s empowering to know that I’ll be taking control of my own future, but it’s also daunting to think about all the changes ahead.”

Mary: “ “Before heading off to college, seniors like me often experience a rollercoaster of emotions, from fear and uncertainty to nostalgia and anticipation. It’s like saying goodbye to a part of your life while eagerly awaiting what’s to come.”

“When do these feelings typically arise for you?”

Lorenzo:  “The closer I get to the start of college, the stronger these emotions become. It’s like a whirlwind of feelings swirling around me, and sometimes it feels overwhelming to process it all. I know I’m not alone in feeling this way, but it doesn’t make it any easier.”

“Where do seniors typically experience these feelings before moving into college?”

Mary: “These feelings really started to hit me during the last few months of high school, as the second semester started. It’s like a countdown to a whole new chapter in my life. The closer I get to the end of the school year, the more real it feels that I’ll be stepping into the unknown soon.”

“Why do seniors often feel anxious or nervous before starting college?”

Mary and Lorenzo:   “It’s normal for seniors like us to feel anxious or nervous before starting college. It’s a big change and there’s a lot of unknowns ahead. But it’s important to remember that these feelings are all part of the journey and that we’re not alone in experiencing them. It’s okay to feel a little scared or unsure about what’s to come.”

“How can seniors cope with their emotions before moving into college?“

Mary and Lorenzo:  “To cope with these emotions, we’ve been talking to friends and family, staying busy with activities we enjoy, and reminding ourselves that it’s okay to feel this way during such a major life transition. Taking care of ourselves, seeking support from others, and focusing on the positive aspects of the college experience can all help us navigate these tumultuous emotions before the big move.”
