After six years of fans waiting for Justin Timberlake to drop a new album, Justin recently obliged his fans with “Everything I Thought It Was” premiering on March 15, 2024.
Justine Timberlake’s album “Everything I Thought It Was” includes a mixture of the pop and R&B genres. Listening to the album you can hear a splash of techno-funk elements, heavy midi, and a sharp focus on beats and bass. The album mainly focuses on feeling wronged by an ex, fighting in a club, or being in love. “Everything I Thought It Was” is like a stylistic call back to his old work: a return of “The Fun Justin.” Variety states “As his longtime collaborator Timbaland said last year-reflecting a time where pop music best functioned as escapism from the world around you. For Timberlake, that means mainly focusing on what keeps him centered: the deep love he has for his wife Jessica Biel.” The songs on his album feature the motif of live heavily His single “Selfish” which is mainly about wanting someone all to yourself. On the Kelly Clarkson show, Justin talks about how he had made 100 songs and came down to his favorite 18. “I would play it for people close to me, and they would say ‘Oh, this sounds like, every part of you of every album mixed into one album.” stating that his new album is a mix of his old albums that he has made.
“Timberlake’s sixth album, Everything I Thought It Was, is designed to buff the dents out of his public image in the wake of a recent memoir by his ex-girlfriend, Britney Spears. She wrote that he encouraged her to get an abortion, told the media she was a “cheater and a liar, and generally acted even worse than you might imagine from a cornrowed white dude who’s prone to speak in AAVE.” Justin Timberlake’s lead single “Selfish” is brought up in every interview he has done about his recently dropped album, “Everything I Thought It Was.” In the interview with Apple Music, Timberlake talks about how there is still so much to discover about an album even after he did the album correctly, and also talked about how growing up he heard his favorite songs from different perspectives as he got older. “That’s the beauty about music: it’s such a vessel within itself to help us as humans to express ourselves even if you didn’t write it you find that relation to that emotion which led me to the first single.” Justin talked about how he was singing the song and stated that the song was sincere and the lyrics started to come out honestly. Later he said that his friend who was also his music director asked if he wanted to sing something and he offered to sing Donnie Hatheway’s cover of “Jealous Guy” by Lenin, and stated that he and his director Adam Blackstone “We were talking about the song itself and just breaking down the idea that you just don’t hear that man often that they would express an emotion that makes them vulnerable.” After dropping his new album, Justin performed on stage at SNL and was asked how it felt being on stage. “It felt great, It felt great– It just felt good to sing it live. – that whole night was such a soulful loving, the vibe in the room was just really special.”
His new album can be found on Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, and YouTube.
