Deadpool & Wolverine is the newest MCU ( Marvel Cinematic Universe) movie to hit theaters. The movie stars Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds as “Marvel’s” merc with a mouth “Deadpool”.
The movie is a direct continuation of The two previous Deadpool movies. Though this is the case, viewers don’t necessarily need to watch the previous two films. Watching Logan is necessary however because of the knowledge needed for Wolverine’s involvement Some of the jokes or references can flow way better with said prior knowledge.
The prior Deadpool movies have had okay reviews with some feeling they lack something.
In an interview with Thunderbird Sophomore student Alexander Fernandez he commented “ The first two Deadpool movies are good but they can’t hold a candle to the third.” When asked to further elaborate on this Alex stated “The dynamic between Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) brings something we haven’t seen before.” Many have fallen in love with the dynamic these two have in this film.
The film is a redemption for our dynamic duo. With both characters down on their luck looking to change. With Wade Wilson (Deadpool) adapting to civilian life after a harsh rejection and taking a knee from what he used to be. In this film our main character reflects how they want to feel needed and “Matter”. This is used as our catalyst into the story of these two heroes. Wade’s universe is dying after his anchor being is gone. Wade then attempts to replace the anchor being to save his universe getting him and Logan (Wolverine) stuck together in the void in the process.
During the duo’s adventure throughout this void they highlight Wolverine’s guilt for what he did and how he ignored his friends when they needed him. A conversation with X-23 (Laura) who was saved by Logan from her universe sacrificing his life highlights how Logan feels he isn’t a hero. We observe in this talk the amount of hardships he has gone through and how it has made him the man he is today,
Deadpool’s story is investing as well. Behind all of the jokes and fourth wall breaking is a broken man. With this movie highlighting how he misses his wife and the life he had before anything happened to him. This is the point at which we enter and these two characters cross paths. This journey gives them both a redemption and a title as heroes among heroes.
Overall, the movie is hilarious but knows when to take itself seriously. A trope some judge on comedy is how they believe that it can’t be serious. In a conversation with Thunderbird Sophomore Ajang Ajnang he said “this movie nails all of its lows and highs effortlessly. I haven’t seen a movie that made me laugh and feel for the characters like this in so long.” This sentiment echoes throughout the audience who enjoyed this movie. Deadpool & Wolverine broke records, restored people’s faith in the MCU ( Marvel Cinematic Universe) and gave everyone a fun time. This is the pinnacle of what Marvel has to offer right now.
