Now that there’s a chill in the air, that means it’s Christmas time. A survey was done at this school to see what the most popular and least popular Christmas movies are.
In the survey, the most popular Christmas movie was Home Alone with 171 votes. Home Alone is a movie made in 1990, and it’s main character is named Kevin McCallister, who is a bratty eight-year-old who gets into a fight with his parents and family as they plan to go to Paris for Christmas. His parents decide to punish him by making him sleep in the attic. The next morning his entire family forgets about him sleeping in the attic, and they leave without him due to the alarm clock not going off and causing them to rush off without checking if they have him. He thinks his wish that he made the night before came true, that his family is gone.
Emelyn Shaw, a sixth grader at Moon Mountain, was asked which Home Alone movie is her favorite, and she said the first one. When asked why it’s her favorite, she answered, “When the bandits get tortured, and get hurt, it’s the funniest thing in the whole world.” This movie is her favorite because of the action. This would be a good movie choice for people who like action and Christmas movies.
Elf was the second most popular movie with 111 votes. This movie is played throughout the Christmas season. Many turn to this movie for a good laugh and even a good cry. This movie was made in 2003. Buddy the Elf fills the role of protagonist. Buddy the Elf is a human who was a stowaway on Santa’s sleigh to the North Pole as a toddler and raised to adulthood by Santa’s elves. Buddy has a growing feeling that he doesn’t fit in, so he sets out to find his biological parents.
The live action version of How The Grinch Stole Christmas was number three in popularity with 100 votes. The movie was made in the year 2000. The Grinch is portrayed by Jim Carrey. Jim Carrey’s way of portraying the Grinch’s hatred for the Christmas holiday is truly genuine and real. According to Internet Movie Database, “On the outskirts of Whoville lives a green, revenge-seeking Grinch who plans to ruin Christmas for all the citizens of the town.” The Grinch plans to ruin Christmas because he hates all the noise they make during the holidays, and his heart is two sizes too small.
The Nightmare Before Christmas was number four in popularity with 79 votes. The Nightmare Before Christmas was made in 1993 by Tim Burton. The main character of the movie is named Jack Skellington. Jack has the name of Pumpkin King in Halloween Town, and he’s getting tired of doing the same old thing over and over again for Halloween. So after Halloween ends for the year, he goes on a walk in the forest of the Pumpkin Patch, his home, and starts to play fetch with his dead dog, Zero, using one of his own ribs. After a while, Jack comes across the doors to other holidays, and he decides to open the Christmas tree door for Christmas Town. However, many people disagree as to whether or not this movie belongs to Halloween or Christmas.
Rounding out the top five is The Polar Express with a total of 77 votes. The Polar express was made in 2004. A young boy is skeptical about the existence of Santa Claus and is shocked to see a train destined for the North Pole in front of his house! As he decides to accept the invitation to board, given to him by the Conductor, he embarks on an adventure of a lifetime.
