Silent Hill 2 is a chilling, horror, survival game made in 2001 with many puzzles to reveal the overall story line. As you play, you venture through a dark, foggy abandoned town and are greeted by inner fears and numerous jump scares with unsettling sounds.
Despite the intention of being sinister, developers noticed fans pointing out many flaws and glitches. They decided to fix it by remaking the game. Silent Hill 2 Remake was released on Oct. 8, 2024, and has since been a huge success.
Players experience the game from the perspective of James Sunderland. The plot remains the same. Sunderland receives a letter from his deceased wife, Mary Shepherd-Sunderland who had died three years ago from an illness. Shepherd-Sunderland announces she is alone, expecting her husband in “Silent Hill.” Sunderland starts his journey and soon, arrives at the mysterious, dark, foggy town. He encounters many different monstrous figures that appear unexpectedly. These monsters represent Sunderland’s grief, fears, and guilt, giving the game an eerie feeling. As he travels through the town, the player controls his actions to reveal more of the story line, and ultimately the truth about what happened to his wife.
One of the most noticeable changes is the graphics. The graphics in the original game became outdated as it was made twenty-two years ago. The original was grainy and the characters had an off-putting look that didn’t make the atmosphere as scary as it could have been. New technology was added allowing more detail that the first game lacked.
The dialogue is improved and altered. According to PCGamesN, a new voice-acting cast has been added to the game. This new cast provides more empathy in their tones, as the original didn’t show as much emotion. The script is the same but adds a more detailed vision. Alice Cave, junior, is a big fan and claimed these changes “made it incredible.”
Fans of Silent Hill 2 are very impressed with the overall outcome of the remake. It gives older fans a nostalgic feeling and newer fans an introduction to the Silent Hill game series. According to Screen Rant, “Over a million copies of the Silent Hill 2 remake were sold.” People worldwide enjoy Silent Hill; it is a phenomenal game.
