Donald Trump was Inaugurated on Jan. 20 as the 47th President of the United States, making him the second president to have been reelected to a nonconsecutive term. Many find this shocking, considering his legal situation. He was previously found guilty of 34 felonies.
Some notable people who attended the Inauguration include Shou Chew (CEO of TikTok), Mark Zuckerberg (CEO of Facebook), and Elon Musk (CEO of Tesla). Chew attended due to TikTok being at risk of being banned in the United States. Trump has vowed to save the app.
United States Representative Nancy Pelosi and Former First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama skipped the inauguration. Neither have elaborated on their reasons for not attending, but both have a history of criticism towards Trump.
Performers at the Liberty Inaugural Ball included Carrie Underwood, Kid Rock, the Village People, Billy Ray Cyrus, Lee Greenwood, Jason Aldean, and more. The performance that seemed to stand out to viewers was Cyrus’s, due to a high amount of technical issues and him eventually refusing to exit the stage. This caused concern from his son, Trace Cyrus, and other family members.
In his inaugural address, Trump made many promises. “The golden age of America begins right now,” he said. He also described America’s leadership over the last four years as corrupt, saying “We now have a government that cannot manage even a simple crisis at home, while at the same time stumbling into a continuing catalog of catastrophic events abroad”. Trump made it apparent that he doesn’t like the direction the country is going in, and he wants to make changes.
The inauguration was not only a political event but an important moment in history. With how divided the country is currently, everyone is anxious to see how the following months will pan out.
