Keep an eye out for the upcoming musical, Freaky Friday. Our school’s Stagecraft crew has been working hard to make the set come alive and as realistic as possible.
Auditions for Freaky Friday officially ended in Dec., before winter break. The cast started rehearsals on the first day back in January. Freaky Friday is about an overworked mother and her teenage daughter who magically swap bodies, and they only have a day to make things right. During the switch, they realize that the other’s life is not as simple as it seems. “This is a show that teens can relate to because it is about teens. Not only is it fun and quirky, but it taps into the reality of … teenage life as they go through ups and downs of high school and family relationships,” said Jamie Bauer-Spano, play director and theater teacher.
When asked what challenges she faced, co-lead Meredith Arends, junior, said, “A big challenge I’m still facing during rehearsals is discovering how to switch characters with another actor during the show. My character (Katherine Blake) and Sienna’s character (Ellie Blake) are supposed to “switch bodies” during the show.” Arends shares how she and her co-lead, junior Sienna Meyer, are having difficulty figuring out how to keep the same characteristics and body language for Katherine and Ellie.
Many of the set builders have mentioned how production for the musical is going well so far. Bauer-Spano shares how much fun they’re having in Stagecraft, and the amazing set they’re putting together for the show. Props and costumes have been looking great. Ace Kaleva-Shaw, a freshman set builder, said, “I feel happy to be working on the musical. Just being a part of building the set is just amazing.”
Make sure to go and support the hard-working team! Be sure to thank them for their time and work. Tickets will be available on GoFan in early February. Show dates are Feb. 27, 28, and March 1.
