The Thunderbird blood drive, in conjunction with Vitalant, was held in the practice gym on Feb. 7 from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The whole blood donation process takes about eight minutes; however, the time it takes people to leave, on average, is about an hour. There are various blood donations which donors can choose from. These include whole blood donations, power red donations, plasma, and platelets. Typically, the recovery time for blood donors is around 24 hours.
At our most recent blood drive, Thunderbird had 62 successful donations: most were power red donors. With the information coming from Coach Pavilik, the blood drive will help save as many as 181 lives in our community hospitals. Of the 62 donors, 23 were new contributors. Thunderbird’s next blood drive is scheduled for April 18.
