Two small planes were involved in a midair collision. The crash left two people on one plane dead, and two on the other uninjured; however, the victims’ names have not yet been released.
Marana Regional Airport (MRA) is northwest of Tucson. The crash was on Feb. 19 at approximately 8:30 a.m.; the Marana Police Department went to the scene of the plane crash, which according to azfamily.com, was near Avra Valley and Sandario roads, just west of I-10.
The airport does not have air traffic control, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The traffic control tower for the MRA was supposed to be installed by the end of 2024 to ensure an improvement in safety; however, the installment got pushed back to March 2025 because of “supply chain and other problems related to the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Vic Hathaway, communications manager.
