The Arizona Humane Society (AHS) has unleashed a tail-wagging new program called “Dog Field Trips,” allowing volunteers to take shelter dogs on fun-filled day-long adventures. These outings give dogs a much-needed break from kennel life, help them de-stress, and boost their chances of getting adopted.
Shelter life can be “ruff,” but these field trips let dogs stretch their legs, sniff out new surroundings, and enjoy some well-deserved belly rubs. Volunteers can treat their furry companions to a hike, a pup-friendly café visit, or even a casual stroll through the neighborhood. AHS hopes these outings will help dogs “fetch” new families and land their forever homes. Anett Rodriguez, a freshman, thinks it’s a paws-itively great idea: “I think it’s very nice because they get more of a chance to find a home.”
Not only do these field trips help puppies adjust to different environments, making them more adoptable, but they also raise community awareness. When people see these adorable dogs out and about, they’re more likely to consider adoption. AHS has also reported that these excursions help reduce stress and improve canine behavior. Brenda Ramirez, freshman, barks her approval: “I think it’s great because they would get exposed to more people who want to adopt.”
Even if you’re not ready to adopt, you can still be a hero! By volunteering for a field trip, you can treat a shelter pup to a day of tail-wagging fun. Sign up through the Arizona Humane Society’s website and take a four-legged friend out for a day of adventure, Arizona Humane Society.
