Recently, Editor in Chief Jeffrey Goldberg from The Atlantic was added to a Signal group chat with officials from President Donald Trump’s office. According to Axios, this chat included Vice President JD Vance, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe. In the chat, the members were communicating attack plans against Yemen since they believed terrorists were threatening U.S. ships.
To prevent more rebels from attacking U.S. ships, the members created the “Houthi Operation,” which bombed Yemen. According to apnews.com, Goldberg reported that “the material in the text chain contained operational details of forthcoming strikes on Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, including information about targets, weapons the U.S. would be deploying, and attack sequencing.” The U.S. government bombed Yemen last Tuesday, and so far, two Houthi rebels are confirmed dead.
When Alan Bird, Honors English teacher, was asked how he feels about the bombing, he answered, “We bombed them over 100 times between 2017 and 2020 because of Red Sea attacks, and again last year, and none of that appears to have helped, so I don’t know why they think bombing Yemen will work this time, but at least they’re being transparent about it, even it if it is accidentally.”
