The sandbox game we know and grew up with, Minecraft, has its own film coming to theaters.
A Minecraft Movie stars Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, and Sebastian Hansen.
The film comes out on April 4, and it is causing a lot of controversy and meme creation. According to IMDb.com, the film synopsis of the plot is, “Four misfits are pulled through a portal into a cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they’ll have to master this world with an unexpected, expert crafter.”
The first trailer for A Minecraft Movie received much hate, with over 1 million dislikes on YouTube. Many people find that the aesthetic of A Minecraft Movie doesn’t fit with the concept of the game. It does not match the storyline whatsoever. According to cbr.com, Jared Hess, director, made it clear that the movie is “not the official story. [It’s] just one in a zillion stories,” referring to why he named the movie A Minecraft Movie instead of “The” Minecraft Movie.
Many memes were made about the film due to the cringey dialogue from the trailers. In the first trailer for A Minecraft Movie, one of the four characters asks Steve, the main character of the video game, “Who are you?” Steve responds, “I am Steve.” From then on, people have made memes of it (Chicken Jockey) and various other quotes (Flint and Steel) from the movie trailer.A Minecraft Movie | Official Trailer
