America’s Tariffs Were Not Set in Place for Russia.
On April 2, President Donald Trump unveiled a round of tariffs around the globe, according to BBC.com. Trump placed a 10 percent tariff on all imported goods from many countries.
Trump said in February that he wanted additional tariffs and sanctions on Russia as a way to help end the war in Ukraine. However, while he placed tariffs on Antarctic islands with a total population of zero, he kept Russia off of his tariff list, leaving the public confused.
Carly Lapre, senior, said, “I wasn’t very surprised to hear about Russia’s lack of tariffs because there has always been a sort of back-and-forth with Trump and Putin.”
White House officials claimed that Russia is not subject to the tariffs because they already have Western sanctions against them. Russia said they want the United States to ease the sanctions placed on them as part of an agreement the two had for a limited ceasefire in Ukraine.
