After many years, with fans anticipating this show’s release, Euphoria season three is now finally in the making.
Euphoria was renewed in February of 2022, but many factors, including writer strikes, forced the production to pause, which upset viewers. Yarely Rojo, sophomore, said it was “unfortunate” that Euphoria had to cancel filming for a while. However, filming resumed in Los Angeles. According to Elle, A24, a film company that helps produce Euphoria, confirmed that production had launched as planned.
Now, viewers are wondering which actors will be coming back. Zendaya (Rue Bennett), Jacob Elordi (Nate Jacobs), Sydney Sweeney (Cassie Howard), Hunter Schafer (Jules Vaughn), Colman Domingo (Ali Muhammad), Dominic Fike (Elliot), Alexa Demi (Maddy Perez), Maude Apatow (Lexi Howard), and Martha Kelly (Laurie) were confirmed to “reprise the roles of their respective characters,” according to CBR.
After hearing about who will be returning for season three, Theresa Howl, sophomore, said, “I’m so excited to see that most of the main characters are coming back; I can’t wait to see what is going to happen.”
However, Barbie Ferreira (Kat Hernandez), Nika King (Leslie Bennett), Storm Reid (Gia Bennett), and Austin Abrams (Ethan) were confirmed to not return to Euphoria.
Ferreira said her departure from Euphoria in August 2022 was because she felt as if she wasn’t doing Kat justice by playing her under writer Sam Levinson’s script. On April 3, 2023, Ferreira was a guest for an episode of Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, and said, “Sam writes, for like, things that he relates to, I don’t think he relates to Kat.” This caused problems for viewers who enjoyed Kat, seeing that there was a difference in her personality between season one and two of Euphoria. LeeAsha Groves, sophomore, said, “I really did enjoy Kat in the first season; I thought she was funny, and she really added to the storyline of Euphoria, but the second season, she was kind of annoying and wasn’t like how she was before.”
Reid left Euphoria due to scheduling conflicts. The reasons why King and Abrams will not be returning for the third season of Euphoria are unclear.
American actor, Eric Dane, who plays Nate Jacobs’s father, Cal Jacobs, recently shared his diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). ALS is a terminal neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Nonetheless, Dane is reappearing as Cal Jacobs this upcoming season. “I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to [the] set of Euphoria,” said Dane, according to E! News.
Fans of Euphoria are intrigued by what will happen next, and especially what will happen from the last scene between Fezco, played by Angus Cloud, his brother Ashtray, played by Javon Walton, and the SWAT members who raided Fezco’s house. On July 31, 2023, Cloud passed away. Many fans were saddened by this news, seeing as Fezco was a character that everyone was fond of. Mariaelena Ruacho, sophomore, said, “Fezco was definitely one of my favorite characters, and knowing that he won’t be in the show anymore due to him passing away is really disappointing.” Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau, stated on Sept. 14, 2023, that Cloud passed away from a lethal mix of drugs
Despite the downside of actors and actresses leaving Euphoria, there is an upside. According to Deadline Hollywood, Grammy Award winner Rosalía, ex-football player Marshawn Lynch, and Kadeem Hardison, winner of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s Image Award, have been added to the cast of Euphoria. Raucho also says that she is “very excited” for Rosalía and many others to join the cast. Season three will also add Darrell Britt-Gibson, Priscella Delgado, James Landry Hébert, and Anna Van Patten. All in all, fans are excited about the newest addition to the show and can’t wait to see what it brings.
