Last Wednesday, India used missiles to strike Pakistan and Pakistani Kashmir. This airstrike left many civilians in Pakistan injured or dead.
The reason this attack happened in the first place was that militant gunmen attacked tourists on April 22, according to CNN, at Pahalgam, a place in Indian-administered Kashmir. 25 Indian civilians were killed along with one Nepali National. Kashmir is a region in India that has a territorial division between India and Pakistan because of India’s partition in 1947. NBC stated that New Delhi had accused Pakistan because the gunmen “had ties to militant groups based in Pakistan.”
The Indian Defence Ministry launched this attack to hold accountable those responsible for the lives lost in April. However, according to the BBC, Pakistan has “denied any involvement in that attack.” Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif said that India’s nefarious assault will not go “unpunished” after stating that the Pahalgam attack had nothing to do with Pakistan.
The missiles that were used by India killed 26 people and wounded 46 others, according to NBC. Andrew Valdez, sophomore, was “surprised to hear this attack had happened.” Valdez also added that he feels incredibly sorry for those injured or killed.
