Abel Tesfaye, a music artist formerly known as The Weeknd, has a psychological thriller coming to theatres soon.
Tesfaye recently retired with his final album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, and has now made a movie with the same name, which is set to release on May 16. An early fan screening is set to release on May 14. The movie stars Tesfaye, Jenna Ortega, Barry Kheogaon, and Charli D’Amelio. Famous director Trey Edward Shults directs the film, and it is being distributed by Lionsgate.
In the plot, Tesfaye experiences insomnia as a stranger begins to reveal the deep core of him. This experience is inspired by one of his concerts, which he had in 2022 during his “After Hours Till Dawn” tour, where he lost his voice mid-song during one of his performances. Tesfaye says this could be due to the stress he experienced. In one of his interviews with Fandango, he states, “The film came first and then the music.”
According to Yahoo.com in one of Tesfaye’s interviews, he says, “ This experience was introspective and cathartic for me.” Referring to the experience he had on set while making the film.
Fans are intrigued on how the film will portray the experience he had on stage. Eduardo Alvarez Almonte, freshman, says, “I’m so excited for this movie because it’s a movie of my favorite artist.” Hurry Up Tomorrow is set to be a hit when it comes to theaters.
