Since the release of James Cameron’s new Avatar: The Way of Water on December 16, 2022, fans around the world jumped right into the theaters hoping to see what the world of Pandora has in store for them.

Recently, the new Avatar movie boosted its way up to No. 7 on the International Box Office with $1.9 billion, nearly surpassing Spiderman: No Way Home with $1,910,048,245, according to the All Time Worldwide Box Office. James Cameron, Film Director of Avatar, said that he expects Avatar: The Way of Water to hit at least the third or fourth highest grossing film in the industry because of the amount of time they prepared this movie into a full masterpiece.

It is reported that this new movie reached the 1 billion mark within 12 days after its release and have been estimating that it would surpass the 2022 movie Top Gun: Maverick. After holding on strong in the charts, the movie did surpass Top Gun, Furious 7, The Avengers, The Lion King, and Jurassic World, making it the No.1 worldwide release of 2022, according to All Time.

As seen by its immense growth in the film industry, Cameron definitely did it again with an awesome production and succeeded after the first Avatar movie was released in 2009. His plan is to create a movie that can connect its viewers to the ocean more, especially during this time and age, according to an interview with Screen Rant Plus. Through this plan, he attempts to make the viewers see how beautiful the ocean world is, and the loss that it makes due to human actions that result in destroying the waters and wildlife. In an interview, Cameron felt the need to present “how the ocean is suffering and failing as a result of our presence” which led him to produce a significant and vast movie.

According to Samantha Pruett, junior, “The movie was really well made and I was beyond excited to see it”. So far, Avatar: The Way of Water has been receiving good reviews from the public because the movie has a good plot that engages the audience’s interest.

Additionally, through the making of The Way of Water, Cameron attempts to portray that “no matter what [people] go through in terms of dysfunction, the family’s your fortress.” He is able to successfully attain this plan through casting new characters as Jake’s and Neytiri’s children, which would then have the urge to become a warrior as teenagers.
