Andrew Tate is a self-described misogynist and social media influencer who has recently gained recognition for several appearances on podcasts, as well as the constant controversies surrounding him.
Tate made a name for himself in 2005 as a professional kickboxer known as the Top G. Tate has played seven bouts, short three to five rounds of boxing, winning four in the process. He played in the light heavyweight division and has competed in 46 main games in his entire career, which lasted from 2011 to 2020, according to BoxRec.com.
Tate was also on Big Brother, a British reality show where contestants are isolated in a house together to create drama. After being on set for six days, he was removed due to his controversial statements about women and extreme misogynistic views.
He made a resurgence in mainstream media by appearing on extremely conservative podcasts, mainly making misogynistic comments toward women. . “He is a bad influence on teens…I think it will start to change how young boys treat girls,” said Morigan Broniarczyk, a freshman. Tate’s target audience is teenage boys, according to mcgill.ca. As Tate has a primarily younger audience, growing up hearing and learning sexist views will affect how they function later in life, turning into adults.
Human trafficking and rape, two major crimes, are both in Tate’s list of many allegations and charges against him. In the United Kingdom, he has been charged with sexual misconduct. In Romania, they go a bit further. He has a charge for organizing a criminal group, in which he would force young women into filming pornographic material in a house in Bucharest, the country’s capital, according to The New York Times. Tate has also been accused of money laundering and sexual intercourse with a minor.
In 2022, the brothers were first arrested in Bucharest, along with the previously mentioned women, for charges of creating a criminal group and human trafficking. Put in place for charges of rape, they travel ban against them was lifted and they flew back to the United States, landing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Feb. 27, 2025.
He and his brother, Tristan Tate, have a lawsuit against them from two women. Despite all the charges that have been brought against them, even with victims speaking up against the two, both men continue to deny all of the allegations, still claiming that they are “misunderstood.”
