Phil McGraw Ends His 21 Season-Long Show Run With New Goals
March 6, 2023
After 21 years of Dr. Phil, Phil McGraw decided to end his show as he seeks for a new venture.
According to CBS Media Ventures, the show has maintained a top spot in its television genre for over 21 years since it has been aired and it is nominated for 31 Emmys. The purpose of the show is to bring families of all ages to talk about multitudes of issues including addiction, health, behavioral problems, relationships, and more. However, McGraw believes that his program was not able to reach a diverse audience across the nation.
As said by McGraw, “I am compelled to engage with a broader audience because I have grave concerns for the American family.” He expects his show to go to an extent where he can attempt to solve the problems of those who are in need. He observed that his show did not cover various problems from the community due to its show only being aired on daytime television. Dr. Phil did reach an average of two million viewers per episode every week; however, McGraw believes that this amount of views did not reach his expectations in the industry because he expected more of his help and connections to a bigger audience.
To add to this, McGraw also said, “With this show, we helped thousands of guests and millions of viewers through everything from addiction and marriage to mental wellness and raising children. This has been an incredible chapter of my life, but while I am moving from daytime television, there is so much more I wish to do.” Hence, he does have a new path that he is planning to follow in his future of his career.
According to Ethan De Leon, a freshman, he feels that this would impact the fans and viewers who watch Dr. Phil daily. Although he rarely watches this show, he has seen a few clips and believes that some individuals would be concerned when he will be facing the public once again.
For now, McGRaw is planning something in the prime-time market that will be announced at a later date and will be launched in 2024 because this plan requires time to process the production date of his next show. Although he is retiring from his show known as Dr. Phil, the public will see more of his adventure that is not on daytime television.
From being a coach on The Oprah Winfrey Show in the 1990s, to a famous television talk-show host, McGraw plans to have a diverse connection with the American public and family itself to help solve their problems. McGraw will reveal more of his plan regarding his new partnership for an advanced show in the future.
