After a lackluster game of the Super Bowl, Bad Bunny stole the spotlight with his performance at the halftime show.
The Super Bowl is a major American football game featuring the teams that advanced far in their seasons. The game took place in Levi’s Stadium, located in Santa Clara, CA. As for the 2026 Super Bowl, Bad Bunny was chosen to perform in the halftime show as he is the top streaming artist, and the show was a hit, with over 4 billion views worldwide, according to kcra.com.
Benito Antonio, also known as the one and only Bad Bunny, is one of the world’s top artists, with over 118 billion streams on Spotify throughout his whole career, according to kworb.net.
Bad Bunny is best known for his hit song “DTMF,” which reached the Billboard charts in early 2026. Antonio had made music history by setting the record for the Super Bowl halftime show. Although he reached 4 billion views, many people have complained about the language he used during his halftime show.
With the Philadelphia Eagles taking the victory against the Kansas City Chiefs, many complaints were raised after Bad Bunny criticized American culture during his performance. Others complained about letting a Puerto Rican man perform at an American game, and most people couldn’t understand what he was saying because his songs are sung in Spanish. To add to the complaints, President Donald J. Trump got very upset when he heard that Benito was chosen to perform at the halftime show and stated that the idea was “absolutely terrible, considered as one of the worst ever” and does not “represent America’s standards of success, creativity or excellence,” according to usatoday.com.
During Benito’s performance, he was not trying to “criticize” American culture but to showcase the beauty of Latin American culture. Near the end of his performance, Bad Bunny says his only English words, which are “God Bless America,” while showing off flags from many different countries, such as Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, and Cuba, ETC. He continued through Central and South America before ending with “USA,” “Canada,” and finally his country, “Puerto Rico,” again, according to forbes.com
Adali Robles Santana, a freshman, states that she personally loved the Super Bowl and the symbolism that was shown in the performance, all the bravery Bad Bunny had, especially during the current hard times happening in the US. Santana also claims that the wedding that was held was beautiful, but sort of unnecessary; Lady Gaga had every right to perform with the wedding happening or without.
Gabriel Carillo, freshman, said that she really liked the performance and that she loved how Bad Bunny had the bravery to show hispanic symbolization to America’s most loved sport. “I liked it when he brought out a football and claimed ‘Together we are America,’ as well as naming all the different Latin countries,” Carillo stated.
The Super Bowl went smoothly, and Bad Bunny put on a good performance. Though many complaints were raised about the halftime show, the performance represented the beauty of the Latin culture & independence, no matter the criticism.
