Thunderbird varsity cheer triumphs, qualifying for the USA nationals held in Anaheim, Calif., from Feb. 13-16!
National qualifications were at Deer Valley High School in December of last year. This year, the Thunderbird cheer coach, Jennifer Flanagan, decided to bring back an All-Girl Stunt after 5 years, which got 9th place out of 40 schools in the intermediate division, said Head Coach Jennifer Flanagan.
In addition to the All-Girl Stunt, varsity cheer competes in Show Cheer and the Game-Day Division. Varsity got a second-place trophy and medal on the Game-Day Sideline Situational; a third-place trophy and medal for the Game-Day Band Chant; and a sixth-place trophy for the Game-Day Fight Song, all of which are in the Game-Day Division.
After nationals were over, varsity cheer celebrated their victories with a trip to Disneyland, spending all Sunday there! Overall, the cheerleaders did a great job. “Us coaches are really proud of the varsity’s hard work this season. Though the season had had challenges, the team as a whole rose together, and their success at nationals was reflective of that,” said Coach Flanagan.
In summary, the Varsity cheerleaders had many accomplishments during the season of 24-25, leaving many with pride and joy.
