After a long wait, the highly anticipated Jujutsu Kaisen: The Culling Game – Part 1 has finally premiered, kicking off Season 3 and returning fans to the world of jujutsu sorcerers and curses.
Jujutsu Kaisen is an action-packed dark fantasy anime set in a world where negative human emotions give rise to powerful supernatural beings known as curses. To protect society, jujutsu sorcerers use cursed energy to hunt and exorcise these threats, often at great personal risk. With its intense action, horror elements, and heavy themes such as fear, responsibility, and the cost of power, the series stands out among modern anime.
The first season introduces Yuji Itadori, a high school student pulled into the hidden world of jujutsu sorcerers after a dangerous encounter with a curse. As he trains under experienced sorcerers, the season focuses on the fundamentals of cursed energy and combat and many key characters.
Season two deepens the story by exploring key characters’ backstories and raising the overall tension, ultimately leading to the major events of the Shibuya Incident. This large-scale conflict in Tokyo sees multiple sorcerers and powerful curses clash at once, causing widespread chaos.
Then, serving as a bridge between season two and season three, the movie Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution compiles the major battles of the Shibuya Incident and provides fans with an early look at the opening episodes of the Culling Game arc.
The anime’s third season premiered on Crunchyroll on Jan. 8, 2026, with the release of the first two episodes generating excitement for the season. Episodes continue to release weekly on Thursdays, and as of Feb. 12, seven episodes are available.
Being a popular anime, many students have already watched the episodes of the new season and have given positive reactions. The first six episodes have been really good so far, with the opening of the season being enjoyable to watch and listen to, according to Arianna M. Chaney, freshman.
The animation of the show has also gotten a lot of praise. The season was full of fluid animation with amazing fight scenes that went above expectations, according to Kalel Pixler, freshman.
With more episodes on the way, the season continues to deliver the thrilling action, stunning visuals, and compelling storylines fans have grown to love.
