Our 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump, has reportedly been diagnosed with a common, yet medically serious condition known as Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI)
On July 17, according to Health.ucdavis.edu, Trump was diagnosed with CVI, a condition where the blood in the veins flows backward instead of forward. These damaged veins cause difficulties for the blood to get pumped back to your heart. Anyone can develop this condition, including children, and it can spread from their arms to their legs.
Veins are one of the most important parts of the body, as they help blood pump back into the heart, allowing it to continue pulsing. Without veins working properly, “It could cause the CVI to raise the pressure in your leg veins so much to the point that your tiniest blood vessels burst, and which causes parts of your legs to turn a brownish color like bruises,” according to my.clevelandclinic.org.
Dr. Mimmie Kwong, a physician who works at UC Davis Health, is known for her commitment to providing high-quality care, as well as comprehensive vascular care for a wide range of arterial and venous conditions. She also works with both endovascular and open surgical techniques to treat pathologies involving renal and mesenteric vessels. Ms. Kwong says how “CVI is a common condition & affects about one in three adults in the United States, with cases ranging from mild to severe.” CVI could affect all adults, but it is more commonly found in women, according to health.ucdavis.edu.
One way to treat CVI is to participate in exercises that involve leg elevation. To do leg elevation, you lift up your legs above the level of your heart, and it will reduce the pressure in your leg veins. It is recommended to elevate your legs for at least 30 minutes, according to my.clevelandclinic.org
.Given all of this information about Trump’s health, about 40% of Americans most likely believe that “Trump is too old to continue his presidency,” while others don’t think much of it, according to today.yougov.com.
Hamlet De La Torre, freshman, believes that Trump’s health will mainly depend on medical experts. Hamlet claims that “Some say age affects energy and decision making, while others say experience matters more than age, but it really comes down to the person who handles the job.” Hamlet isn’t fully agreeing, or disagreeing about Trump’s age during his presidency, while Lin Kyaw Oo, freshman, says if Trump “spends most of the money on his treatment, he will most likely make citizens pay more taxes to cover up everything.
Overall, many Americans hope Trump receives the treatment he needs so his condition does not affect his ability to serve. ,. Some people believe that Vice President JD Vance may take on more responsibilities if Trump’s health declines, but nothing has been confirmed at this time.
