CM Punk Makes Earth-Shattering Return to WWE

On November 25th, WWE held their annual Survivor Series: Wargames pay-per-view in Chicago. At the end of this exciting and thrilling show, CM Punk made his legendary return to the WWE after 10 years.

CM Punk is a Chicago native known throughout the pro wrestling community for his straight-edge lifestyle and his knack for saying what he thinks, usually without a filter.

From the late ’90s to the mid-2000s, Punk would gain a cultlike following in the independent wrestling scene, gaining the nickname “King of the Indies.” His work in Ring of Honor against opponents like Samoa Joe and Brian Danielson is very highly regarded by fans and critics alike.

When he signed with WWE in 2005, it took a while for him to gain traction. By 2008, Punk became the World Heavyweight Champion by cashing in his Money in the Bank contract.

Punk would wrestle for a few more years before setting his sights on John Cena. During this feud, Punk would give a speech on an episode of Monday Night Raw, talking about his mistreatment in the company, amongst other things. This speech would be dubbed “The Pipebomb” by fans.

The feud culminated at Money in the Bank 2011, with Punk winning the WWE Championship against Cena in his hometown of Chicago. This match was rated 5 stars by popular wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer, the first 5-star match in the company in 14 years.

In 2014, Punk walked out of the WWE due to unhappiness with how he was treated in the company. He wouldn’t wrestle for 7 years.

In 2021, he signed with All Elite Wrestling but was fired in September of 2023 due to altercations backstage. This led many fans to believe that no company would hire Punk after his controversy and that he would be done with pro wrestling altogether, but now The Best In The World is back home in the WWE.
